It’s standard everywhere these days. Companies used to have personnel departments. Now they have HR departments who spend their time murdering the English language and being useless – HR people invented the word “competencies” and expect the rest of us to understand it. Then they accuse us of being stupid when we don’t. (It actually means “behaviours” and has nothing to do with competence.) Human Resources is the new “management-rubbish-speak” word for “people”.
I frequently point out that the most recent group of people to actually use people as a resource rather than as people were the SS who ran Auschwitz concentration camp, where the prisoners fit enough to work were worked to death with as little food as possible, to extract the maximum work out of them before they died and were replaced by the next “consignment”.
